IQ City Medical College and Hospital Celebrated 1000 Smiles in Durgapur
News Desk, News Nation 360 : Operation Smile and the Inga Health Foundation entered into a partnership on December 2015 with the Objective of increasing Surgical capacity to treat the huge backlog of children suffering from cleft lip and cleft palate in India. In 2017, the Inga Health Foundation and Operation Smile Inc. Formed a partnership with the IQ City Medical College and Hospital and organized the first Future of Smiles Mission in Durgapur, West Bengal. From February 23 to March 1, 2020, an International Cleft lip and palate medical mission are underway at the IQ City Medical College and Hospital. On this mission, 120 children with cleft lips and palates will be provided corrective facial surgery by a multidisciplinary team of medical and non-medical volunteers from Venezuela, Poland, USA, Russia, Sweden, Germany, United
Kingdom, Denmark, Ghana, Kenya, Italy, Canada, Australia, Mexico and India. On February 25, a new milestone has been created that the 1000th Child was operated upon in Durgapur. The three organizations came together to start the Durgapur Cleft Centre in March 2019. Apart from the surgery the centre also provides orthodontics, dentistry and speech therapy services to partners free of cost. According to them a child born with a cleft faces multiple problems. Apart from affecting their speech, feeding and nutrition, a child is also socially marginalized. Because of the various social stigma and taboo, they are shunned by society – these children are not able to attend school, sometimes even the entire family is ostracized by society. A simple surgery is able to reintegrate the child and family back into society. Operation Smile, Inga Health Foundation and IQ City Medical College and Hospital are committed to reach out to children in the remotest parts of West Bengal and provide the highest quality to care.
