State Forum Of Headmasters & Headmistresses & International Justice Mission Hosted the 1st Conference Involving Over 200 Headmasters & Headmistresses
News Desk, News Nation 360 : The State Forum of Headmasters & Headmistresses, West Bengal & International Justice Mission (IJM), Kolkata today hosted the first-ever conference on ‘School As A Centre Of Excellence To Combat Human Trafficking And Early Child Marriage’ at Moulali Yuva Kendra, which was attended by over 200 Headmasters & Headmistresses across 23 districts of West Bengal. The conference was addressed by Purnendu Basu, Minister-In-Charge, Department of Technical Education, Training & Skill Development, Government of West Bengal, Ananya Chakraborti Chatterjee, Chairperson, Commission for Protection of Child Rights, West Bengal, Chandan Kr Maity, Headmaster, Krishnachandrapur High School & General Secretary, State Forum of Headmasters & Headmistresses, West Bengal and Saji Philip, Director of Operations, International Justice Mission, Kolkata amongst others. Various issues such as dropouts, lack of sex and gender education, stigmatization and dearth of opportunities after secondary level education that are experienced by the teachers, institutional heads, rural school children and communities and sharing of best practices in order to collaboratively work towards practical and sustainable solution were discussed during the conference. This Conference was held to deliberate on how to instrument schools as centres of excellence to combat human trafficking and early child marriage. It aims to make schools a safe space for children, build a support system that the children require and a medium to sip in through community to make community also a safe space for children by engaging through Adolescent group, VLCPC. Ananya Chakraborti Chatterjee, Chairperson, Commission for Protection of Child Rights, West Bengal said that Teachers are essential stakeholders of the society. Teachers inspire the students still their last days. Only a teacher can make the students understand and guide them towards the right path. It is essential to know that apart from poverty, there are certain other push factors like domestic violence arising out of child marriage which leads to trafficking. Both girls and boys should be made to understand that both of them are important and are equals. Women should understand that they existed before marriage and will exist after marriage. Only a teacher can instil values and helped change the mindset of the children.
