Leadership and Participation of Persons With Disabilities Toward an Inclusive, Accessible and Sustainable Post-Covid-19 World

News Desk, News Nation 360 : DAF WB founded in 1997, is a state-level network of about twenty-five organizations working with and for persons with disabilities, parents’ associations and individual members from West Bengal. The forum is committed to raise public awareness on the rights of persons with disabilities and advocating for their respectful inclusion in access to all basic rights and entitlements. DAF WB has been celebrating IDPD for many years through different programmes. As a part of the celebration of IDPD, DAF WB organized the following activities on 3rd December 2021: 1. Submission of Memorandum to the Honourable Governor, the Honourable Chief Minister, the Chief Justice WB, Honourable Minister WCD, Principal Secretary and the Commissioner Disability on the following issues, Appointment of Full Time Commissioner for persons with disabilities as provided in Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016, Issue of Unique Disability Identity Card (UDID) for persons with disabilities in WB. Early Identification and Intervention for all children with a disability up to block levels, Covid 19 vaccination for all persons with disabilities, Tableaus (Thakurpukur to Karunamoyee from 10 AM to 3:00 PM) and (Bidhannagar  Commissionarate to Karunamoyee via Saltlake, Newtown) to create awareness on the rights of persons with disabilities (PwDs) and advocate for their respectful inclusion in access to all basic rights and entitlements. The tableau from Bidhannagar was inaugurated by Khandbahale Umesh Ganpath, IPS, Dy Commissioner of Police Bidhan Nagar Zone and 3. Awareness Programme at Salt Lake Karunamoyee from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM followed by a human chain. 3rd December, International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is celebrated globally to focus not only on barriers and discrimination faced by disabled people but also to highlight abilities and the everydayness of the disability experience. The IDPD will be celebrated in West Bengal this year too and people with different disabilities will be awarded on this day by the state government for their achievements in different fields.
