Minor Rescued From Sex Trafficking Racket In Private Residence

News Desk, News Nation 360 : Biddhannagar Police Commissionerate- Special Branch rescued a minor from a private residence in New Town area. The girl aged 16 years was forced into prostitution for the last several months. International Justice Mission (IJM) assisted with the operation. Sex trafficking methods have evolved rapidly and now depend heavily on technology with perpetrators using messaging applications like WhatsApp to sell and exploit minors for commercial sex. Technology helps them reduce the risks associated with real-world meetings and surveillance. The perpetrators would use modern messaging applications to connect with customers and share pictures of the victims before meeting the clients at the private residence. Three perpetrators, Suparna Mondal (42 years), Abhijit Mondal (37 years), and Payel Heera (19 years) who were allegedly running a trafficking racket in a two-room apartment were arrested in connection to this crime. The main perpetrator, Suparna Mondal, who was a former sexual worker was responsible for striking deals with customers and used her rented house as a location to exploit minor girls. Saji Philip, Director of Operations, International Justice Mission, Kolkata said this year, they rescued school-going girls in such similar cases. This case exemplifies the change in trend from location-based prostitution to sexual exploitation being carried out through private networks.
