A Patient's Story of Overcoming Adversities: A Miraculous Recovery

News Desk, News Nation 360 : This is a story of hope and recovery about a 51-year-old Kharagpur patient who faced adversity but overcame it with the help of Desun Hospital's Head of Cardiac Anaesthesiology, Dr. Subhendu Sarkar. To overcome all of these obstacles, cooperation was needed. Physicians from different departments collaborated closely, including neurology, oncology, and cardiology. They went ahead with the major heart surgery after getting the oncology team's approval and carefully managing the patient's diabetes and infections. This patient had heart surgery to replace his aortic valve in 2009. But as time went on, a stuck valve leaflet started to cause him breathing problems. He was also dealing with diabetes, high blood pressure, and multiple myeloma, a blood cancer that compromised his immune system. The postoperative phase, however, brought with it formidable difficulties. Due to an infection, the patient became very sick and spent a day in a coma. When he awoke, he found

that he had suffered a stroke that had left his left side immobile. To make matters worse, a scan indicated that there was bleeding in a portion of his brain due to inadequate blood flow. The patient underwent a successful surgery but faced complications with infection. Dr. Sarkar and his team acted quickly to administer medication, and blood transfusions, and monitor the patient's heart. The infection subsided within 3 days, and by day 6 the patient was off mechanical ventilation. By day 8, the patient began exercises to regain movement. Remarkably, by day 9 the patient recovered well with no worsening of their cancer despite the challenges. Dr Subhendu Sarkar stated that this narrative demonstrates the tenacity of their patients and the unshakable commitment of their medical staff. It acts as a reminder of the amazing things that can be accomplished when people work together and are persistent.
