Updated: Jun 1

News Desk, News Nation 360 : Saheed Anurup Chandra Mahavidyalaya, named after Indian freedom fighter Sri Anurup Chandra Sen, was established in 1991 to fulfil the dreams of education enthusiasts in Burul village, South 24 Parganas. Sen, who had taken refuge in the village after escaping British authorities, inspired the community with his ideals before his capture. The college offers undergraduate programs in Arts, Science, and Commerce, focusing on computer literacy and a wide range of Add-On Certificate courses. The scenic 8,700 square meter campus features a well-maintained infrastructure with smart classrooms, a 5G Wi-Fi network, well-equipped labs, a library with resources for visually impaired students, sports facilities, and a commitment to sustainability through solar energy, rainwater harvesting, and energy-saving measures. The college's dedication to inclusivity extends to its library, the Central Library, which boasts a collection of 22,000 books and caters to visually impaired students through special resources and partnerships with organizations like The National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities. Additionally, the library provides educators and students with access to a wealth of online learning materials through its memberships in the British Council Library, N-LIST, NDLI, and the American Central Library. With its focus on academics, technology, accessibility, and sustainability, Saheed Anurup Chandra Mahavidyalaya has become a prominent educational centre for over 2,000 students in the region. This growth is attributed to the well-organized plans and leadership, of Prof. (Dr.) Santanu Kumar Sen currently serving as the principal. Saheed Anurup Chandra Mahavidyalaya stands out for its cutting-edge approach, being the first college in the area to boast a 5G Wi-Fi campus powered by Reliance's 2023 network. The emphasis on hands-on learning is evident in its state-of-the-art equipment, computer labs, and specialized geography and physical education facilities. The college prioritizes the well-being of its students by offering a gymnasium, yoga centre, playgrounds, and a volleyball court, fostering a healthy balance between academics and physical activity. This commitment to a well-rounded education extends beyond the classroom as the college actively promotes sustainability initiatives. Rainwater collection and reuse programs coexist with solar energy use and energy-saving measures implemented through motion, timer, and photo sensors. The verdant campus reflects the college's dedication to environmental responsibility, with every space carefully landscaped and a comprehensive tree inventory maintained through an environmental energy Audit. In conclusion, Saheed Anurup Chandra Mahavidyalaya embodies the legacy of its namesake by not only offering quality education but also fostering a progressive learning environment that prioritizes technology, accessibility, sustainability, and student well-being.
