News Desk, News Nation 360 : In Kolkata, Xu Wei has taken on the role of Chinese Consul General. His appointment follows China's May visit to India with Xu Feihong, its new ambassador. Zha Liyuo was succeeded by Xu Wei, the sixth Chinese Consul General in Kolkata. Xu Wei, the new Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Kolkata, expressed his desire to strengthen ties between China and India during a welcome reception recently in Kolkata. Highlighting the long history and cultural importance of both countries, Xu acknowledged their role as major developing economies and pledged to work together to manage differences and enhance political trust. He pointed to China's economic growth and its commitment to building a "human community with a
shared future" through initiatives like the Belt and Road cooperation while emphasizing the cultural connection between the two nations as evidenced by the recent "Retrace the Footsteps of Tagore" events. Recognizing the importance of economic ties, Xu stressed that decoupling is not in the best interests of either country and that China will continue to build bridges for practical cooperation, including facilitating trade missions from eastern India. He also spoke of the importance of people-to-people exchanges and his hope to see more cultural exchange between the two countries. Concluding his remarks, Xu pledged his commitment to working with the people of eastern India to elevate the relationship between the two regions.
