SERVES FOR NATION

News Desk, News Nation 360 : AROICON (the 45th Annual National Conference of the Association of Radiation Oncologists of India) took place from November 27 to 30, 2025, in Kolkata. It was one of Asia's major oncology conferences (second only to the Joint Indian Cancer Congress, held every four years). More than 1800 delegates and academics from India and throughout the world attended, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Europe, and ASEAN countries. According to Dr Suman Mallik, Organising Chairman of AROICON 2025, radiation oncology is critical in cancer management, with more than half of cancer patients requiring radiotherapy at some point in their journey, whether as a sole curative treatment, pre- or post-operative treatment, or palliative care. Unfortunately, there remain barriers to patient access to high-quality radiation, with a recent UK-based survey revealing that only around 35% of eligible patients were able to receive treatment, and less than 40% were able to do so within the desired 2-month waiting period. AROICON 2025 provided a full academic platform with scientific sessions, keynote lectures, panel discussions, hands-on workshops, and case-based learning modules. The emphasis was on advanced issues such as precision radiation treatments, personalised medicine, and AI integration in oncology. The conference also focused on the human elements of cancer treatment, including survivorship, quality of life, palliative care, and entrepreneurship. Along with academic events, AROICON 2025 featured a comprehensive medical exhibition displaying cutting-edge radiation oncology equipment, technologies, and breakthroughs. This exhibition gave guests hands-on experience with modern treatment options as well as insights into upcoming technology that will shape the future of oncology care.
