News Desk, News Nation 360: A 60-year-old male patient, hailing from Kolkata and suffering from severe hypertensive urgency (Blood pressure up to 220/120 mmHg despite multiple drugs), chest pain, and neurological deficits, was successfully treated via a laser-guided renal artery angioplasty procedure done at Manipal Hospital, Dhakuria, by Dr Soumya Kanti Dutta, Consultant

Interventional Cardiologist. Investigations were suggestive of concomitant coronary artery disease and 100% thrombotic occlusion of the left renal artery, thus making balloon angioplasty impossible due to total occlusion of the vessel. The use of advanced technology of laser atherectomy /photo ablation helped in the dissolving of the thick thrombus and stenting of the renal artery ostium, thereby restoring normal perfusion of the kidney with restoration of urine output and stabilisation of blood pressure.
