News Desk, News Nation 360: A solo exhibition of 180 works of art by 79-year-old Kiran Dixit Thacker (painter and sculptor), the possible sole surviving female disciple of the great modernist pioneer Ramkinkar Baij, is on view across the North, West, and South galleries of the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata, till October 10, 2026. This exhibition, which was formally opened in the presence of art critic Mrinal Ghosh and Kala Bhavana faculty members Prof. Pankaj Panwar and Associate Prof. Sutanu Chatterjee, comprises sculpture, paintings and drawings in metal, clay, and stone, representing

her journey from Benaras to Santiniketan, where she earned her Diploma in Fine Arts in 1969 under the tutelage of Baij, Dhirendra Krishna Deb Burman, Biswarup Bose and Gouri Bhanja. After three decades of teaching craft and design in England, she returned to Santiniketan in 2000 to continue her art. Her mostly figurative works of art are a meeting of the observational and technical methodologies of the West, and the rustic and pastoral landscapes and Santhal tribal ethos of Santiniketan. The works depict elements around her with the detachment of Cezanne and the simplicity of natural forms.
