News Desk, News Nation 360: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a Fortune Global 500 company and Maharatna PSU, has successfully acquired all of Videocon Energy Brazil's remaining shares in their joint venture company, IBV Brasil Petróleo Ltda. (IBV), increasing its corporate ownership from 65.40% to 100% and making IBV a fully owned foreign subsidiary. The historic cross-border deal was completed through step-down subsidiaries of BPCL's upstream exploration company, Bharat PetroResources Limited (BPRL), after BPRL exercised its contractual Right of First Refusal and obtained all required regulatory registrations from Brazilian authorities amid increased volatility and supply disruptions across vital global energy supply routes. Strategically designed to bolster India's long-term macro energy security through diversified sustainable access to overseas hydrocarbon assets, the full takeover gives BPCL direct access to prime offshore oil and gas concessions in Brazil, including BM-C-30 and BM-SEAL-11—a deepwater block operated alongside Petrobras where a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) production vessel contract was signed in May 2026. Once operations start, this project is expected to directly add about 1 million tonnes of oil equivalent (MTOE) annually in equity production to BPCL's upstream portfolio. Mr. Sanjay Khanna, BPCL's recently appointed Chairman and Managing Director, has confirmed that the acquisition represents a significant structural milestone in the company's overseas growth journey to establish a robust, self-reliant global energy framework.
