News Desk, News Nation 360 : Doctors at Fortis Hospital, Anandapur, completed a highly complex open-heart surgery on a 53-year-old Bhutanese woman who had been diagnosed with a rare and huge cancer inside her heart. The tumour, which was 8x8x7 cm, had a balloon-like protrusion that filled nearly the whole chamber of her heart. A multidisciplinary team of doctors led by Dr K. M. Mandana, Director- Cardio Thoracic & Vascular Surgery, Fortis Hospital Anandapur, performed a complicated open-heart surgery, and the patient was discharged in good condition. In a complicated case at Fortis Anandapur, advanced imaging revealed critical heart anomalies, including bulging of the aorta near the heart, thickening and narrowing of several coronary vessels that impeded the flow of blood, a mild leak in one heart valve causing leakage of blood backward, and narrowing of another valve that further complicated blood exiting the heart; all these culminated in a characteristic lump on the right heart chamber. This was combined with Takayasu's Aorto-Arteritis, a rather rare inflammatory disease of the aorta. The medical team had major challenges to deal with. Intricate open-heart surgery was successfully performed by replacing the aortic valve with a mechanical valve, excising clots, and repairing the aneurysm-like swelling with a pericardial patch made from the tissue covering the heart. Despite the high complexity, the surgery was executed with meticulous precision, resulting in the smooth recovery and discharge of the patient in good health, showcasing expert multidisciplinary care in managing rare and serious cardiovascular diseases. Giving details of the case, Dr K. M. Mandana, Director- Cardio Thoracic & Vascular Surgery, Fortis Hospital Anandapur, stated that the patient was in critical condition when she was admitted. The swelling was exceptionally enormous and had spread to crush key organs within the heart. Such circumstances are uncommon and necessitate meticulous planning and collaboration. They're relieved that the procedure went successfully and that the patient is doing well.
