News Desk, News Nation 360 : One of the top purpose-driven technology-led oncology platforms, Kolkata's Medella Karkinos Oncology Institute (Karkinos Healthcare Kolkata), is reminding people of the critical need for early detection, routine check-ups, and a tobacco-free lifestyle to lessen the burden of lung cancer, one of the most deadly but preventable types of cancer in the world, as the world observes World Lung Cancer Day. The Centre held an awareness seminar to commemorate the day, emphasising risk factors, early symptoms, and preventive lifestyle measures to help prevent the disease. Due in large part to delayed diagnosis and low awareness, lung cancer is a major public health concern that claims many lives worldwide. When the cancer is discovered at an advanced stage, survival rates are still dismal despite tremendous advancements in treatment. Several symptoms that could point to a lung issue can be caused by lung cancer. A persistent cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, coughing up blood, and unexplained weight loss are some of the most typical symptoms. Dr. Akther Jawade, Director East, Karkinos Healthcare, stated that when it comes to lung cancer, the significance of early detection cannot be overstated. Screening high-risk people can be the difference between life and death, particularly for those who have smoked in the past. Their ability to treat improves with early detection. Although it can harm non-smokers as well, smoking tobacco is the main risk factor for lung cancer. Air pollution, secondhand smoke exposure, and a history of chronic lung disorders are additional risk factors. Regular health check-ups are essential because early symptoms may overlap with other respiratory disorders, particularly for those who have a history of smoking or exposure to air pollution.
