Spectacular Launch of the 15th Edition of Chess for Youth in Kolkata

He is grateful to Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy for this amazing effort. Today, chess makes India proud around the world. His best wishes to all of the contestants to play with focus and enthusiasm, and not to play under pressure. Victory is nice, but defeat teaches a lot as well. The 15th edition of the 'Chess for Youth' tournament was inaugurated on 31 October 2025 at the historic Town Hall in Kolkata, organised by the Dhanuka Dhanseri Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy and AllSport Foundation. This prestigious event features nearly 670 young chess players from over 250 schools across India, competing in three groups: Junior (Under 6, 8, and 10), Senior (Under 12, 14, and 16), and the Premier Group (Under 25). The Premier Group includes top Indian players like Grandmaster Mitrava Guha, International Master Souharda Basak, and Woman International Master Arpita Mukherjee. The tournament announces a total cash prize of ₹2,20,000 for the Premier Group, with ₹50,000 for the first prize and Champion’s Trophy, while 120 trophies will be awarded across Junior and Senior groups. The inauguration was attended by notable personalities, including Padma Shri and Arjuna Awardee Baichung Bhutia, and grandmasters Dibyendu Barua and Deep Sengupta, emphasising the event's importance in promoting chess among youth and fostering competitive spirit and focus.
