News Desk, News Nation 360: In its telematics-driven India Road Safety Report (IRSR) 2026, digital insurer Zuno General Insurance found that Kolkata had the best speed discipline of all the Indian metropolises examined, with a benchmark over-speeding score of 97 and an overall composite SmartDrive score of 93. The study, which examined 4.5 million trips and 55 million kilometres of real-time driving data from 27,000 active Zuno SmartDrive app users in 17 states, shows that over 80% of traffic accidents in India are caused by behavioural habits, with abrupt braking (87) and harsh acceleration (91) having the lowest national metrics. MD and CEO Shanai Ghosh emphasized that driving scores peak during the afternoon (1 PM–2 PM) before dropping sharply after 8 PM to reach maximum risk levels between 9 PM and 10 PM (86), proving that telematics and behavioral interventions are crucial to mitigating India's 1.73 lakh annual road fatalities and supporting the Stockholm Declaration's target of reducing road deaths by 50% by 2030.
