News Desk, News Nation 360 : A 77-year-old man who experienced abrupt hypotension and abdominal pain—an uncommon but clinically significant symptom that finally indicated an underlying heart emergency—was effectively treated at Fortis Hospital in Anandpur in a rare case that was reported. A multidisciplinary team led by Dr Shuvanan Ray, Director & Chief of Interventional Cardiology at Fortis Hospital in Anandapur, handled the challenging case, highlighting the critical role that prompt cross-specialty teamwork and high clinical suspicion have in saving lives. In order to assess the patient's abdominal problems, the hospital's gastrointestinal team originally admitted the patient. However, an echocardiography performed as part of standard investigations showed that a portion of the heart was not functioning normally. A thorough heart artery examination that followed showed that one of the major arteries providing blood to the heart had become severely blocked and hardened. The diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome was confirmed by additional testing. Multiple lengthy stent placement was avoided because it could raise the risk of future difficulties because the blockage involved a long stretch of a tiny artery. Because the damaged artery beyond the occlusion was too tiny and weak to support operation, open-heart bypass surgery was also ruled out. Additionally, doctors discovered that the patient's stomach ache was actually a warning indication of heart illness, which is a common presentation in diabetic individuals, who may not normally experience chest pain. "This case was particularly challenging because the patient presented with abdominal discomfort rather than typical chest pain, which is a known but frequently overlooked warning sign of heart disease in diabetic patients," stated Dr Shuvanan Ray, Director & Chief of Interventional Cardiology at Fortis Hospital, Anandapur. We were able to recognise the cardiac issue thanks to early detection and prompt teamwork. We used a carefully thought-out strategy to prevent needless, lengthy stents or open heart surgery because of the patient's advanced age and the difficulty of the obstruction. We successfully and safely restored blood flow by employing cutting-edge methods. Ashish Mukherjee, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital Anandapur, stated, "This complex intervention highlights Fortis Hospital, Anandapur's commitment to delivering cutting-edge, patient-centric cardiac care. The patient has responded very well to the treatment, and we expect a good long-term outcome." Even in the most difficult cardiac cases, the hospital continues to achieve exceptional results thanks to its highly skilled team of cardiology specialists and state-of-the-art interventional infrastructure.
