News Desk, News Nation 360: Manipal Hospital Dhakuria recently performed a life-saving medical intervention on a 19-year-old first-year college student who suffered a massive and rare heart attack despite having no prior history of heart disease or typical risk factors like smoking or diabetes. The patient, a resident of Basirhat, collapsed while playing football and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition with no pulse and unmeasurable blood pressure, where he was immediately placed on emergency life support in the cardiac catheterisation laboratory. Dr Soumya Kanti Dutta, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist, led the team through a high-stakes coronary angiography that revealed a complete blockage of the left coronary artery system, a condition described as the first of its kind in the state for someone so young. During the emergency primary angioplasty and left main bifurcation stenting, the patient suffered three cardiac arrests but was successfully revived each time through advanced CPR, eventually showing a rapid recovery and being discharged in stable condition within just two days. Further medical investigations identified significant dyslipidaemia, possibly linked to a rare genetic lipid disorder, as a contributing factor to this unexpected cardiac event, though the student is now expected to resume his studies shortly.
