News Desk, News Nation 360 : Desun Hospital announced the introduction of "My Last Cigarette," a focused programme aimed to supporting individuals on their road to stop tobacco usage, on the eve of World No Tobacco Day 2025. Starting on May 31st, this campaign represents Desun's persistent dedication to preventive healthcare and community well-being. Speaking about the inspiration behind the campaign, Shaoli Dutta, Group Director, Desun Hospital, stated that the "My Last Cigarette" campaign is about real individuals, real challenges, and real successes. They are not simply raising awareness; they are also establishing a movement of empathy, healing, and community strength. They want to remind individuals that it is never too late to quit, and they do not have to do so alone. In response to the ruinous effects of tobacco dependence, Desun Hospital has initiated a personal support program, beginning May 31st, for those willing to quit. In light of tobacco's contribution to millions of heart disease, stroke, cancer, and respiratory disease deaths each year, Desun hopes to offer support, knowledge, and care during the process of quitting. Patients who come to Desun Hospital to make a written commitment to give up smoking and other tobacco use will be given a 'Certificate of Commitment' and a commemorative souvenir. Patients who manage to stay tobacco-free for a week will also receive a free healthcare package to aid in their recuperation. The program is made with the intent to act as a trigger for life transformation, going beyond an ordinary public campaign. Pre-launch, on 30th May, Desun organized a panel discussion wherein renowned medical professionals such as Dr Sanjib Kumar Patra (Director, Cardiology), Dr Sreya Mallik (Consultant, Medical Oncology), and Dr Madhu Priya (Consultant, Pulmonology) highlighted the importance of quitting tobacco immediately and the advantage of early intervention, as moderated by Dr Sujoy Ranjan Deb (Medical Director).
