News Desk. News Nation 360: In honour of World Environment Day (June 5, 2026), Manipal Hospitals East and the Calcutta Tramways Company (CTC) organised a special public awareness campaign aboard a famous tram in Kolkata. From Gariahat to Shyambazar, the unique awareness ride travelled the city's ancient routes, symbolically linking important neighbourhoods and promoting the dual objectives of preventative healthcare and sustainable urban transportation. Dr Swapan Dasgupta, the Rashbehari Constituency MLA, senior CTC officials, and top medical professionals from Manipal Hospitals officially kicked off the event. The official introduction of the "Manipal Prakriti Mitra Card," an exclusive healthcare privilege card intended to offer complete medical coverage and services to CTC employees and their immediate families, was a major highlight of the partnership's environmental focus. This program demonstrates the hospital network's dedication to the well-being of the employees in charge of preserving Kolkata's century-old, environmentally friendly transit legacy. Dr Rana Rathod Roy, Consultant of Interventional Cardiology & Lead Consultant of Clinical Cardiology at Manipal Hospital EM Bypass, urged attendees to adopt mindful, environmentally friendly lifestyle choices to safeguard heart health, pointing out that urban air pollution and environmental degradation directly increase the burden of cardiovascular diseases on society. Dr Debraj Jash, Director of Pulmonology at Manipal Hospitals Kolkata, went into further detail about the physiological effects of urban emissions and stressed the importance of clean air initiatives in reducing chronic respiratory conditions like asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). He asserted that creating a greener ecosystem is a necessary precondition for protecting public lung health and life quality for future generations.
