The Human Hair Industry Needs Immediate Save Women's Livelihoods and Msmes

News Desk, News Nation 360: Human Hair Processors & Exporters Meet organised by West Bengal Human Hair Association at The Lalit Great Eastern in Kolkata witnessed the convergence of policymakers, customs authorities and MSME stakeholders to deliberate on rising raw material prices, shrinking margins and illegal cross-border outflows impinging on processing clusters in East Midnapore and Murshidabad. Speaking at the convention alongside Chandipur MLA Dr. Pijush Kanti Das, Assistant Commissioner of Customs Mr. Anil Kumar and PLEXCONCIL COA Member Mr. SK Mukul Ali, Minister of State for MSME&T Shri Ashok Dinda noted that the multi-thousand-crore sector supports over 25 lakh grassroots workers largely comprising rural women, and pledged state government support for developmental initiatives for establishment of modern industrial clusters, subsidized mechanization and environmental management infrastructure to facilitate transition of local economy from raw hair exports to finished, high-margin manufacturing under ‘Made in India’; endorsing the proposed cluster interventions, West Bengal Human Hair Association Secretary Mr. Manoj Samanta observed that while India’s human hair exports have surged to approximately USD 943 million in FY 2025–26, securing sustainable domestic value addition in wigs and hair extensions and tightening checks on illegal raw hair transit is critical to protecting artisanal livelihoods and reaping higher profits within the state.
