News Desk, News Nation 360: With a colourful concluding ceremony held at the Shibpur Police Lines boxing arena in Howrah, the two-day Sub-Junior Boys and Girls State Boxing Championship 2026 marked a significant turning point for the state's grassroots sports growth. More than 100 incredibly gifted young fighters from 12 districts in West Bengal participated in the intense competition, which was organised by the West Bengal Progressive Boxing Association. Over the course of the multi-day tournament, fans were captivated by intense competitive strategy, physical conditioning, and athletic confidence displayed in ferocious battles across various weight classes. Most importantly, West Bengal will be represented at the next national boxing tournament in Jalandhar, Punjab, thanks to the gold medal winners of this state-level competition. Kunal Saha (Acting Secretary, West Bengal Progressive Boxing Association), Mukul Nath Tiwari (President, Howrah District Boxing Association), Goswami Singh (Secretary, Howrah District Boxing Association), Bhatpara MLA Pawan Singh, and well-known social worker Akhilesh Singh, along with special guests Soumyashankar Bose, Kaushik Biswas, Pramod Singh, Bishwaranjan Das, and renowned filmmaker and music director Abhijit Paul, graced the final session. Speaking to the crowd, the dignitaries emphasised that the championship's main goal is to systematically identify promising boxing talent at the grassroots level and create strong pathways to place them on prestigious national and international podiums. They also noted that the young sub-junior boys' and girls' outstanding
technical performance portends a very bright future for the sport in India. Tournament Results as follows:- Boys' Division - 30–33 kg: Gold – Senehal Mahato (NDBA), Silver – Arman Singh (HDBA), 33–35 kg: Gold – Ryans Gomes (NDBA), Silver – Shahin Kisku (Paschim Bardhaman), 35–37 kg: Gold – Raunak Mahato (NDBA), Silver – Aryan Thakur (HDBA), 37–40 kg: Gold – Sameer Kumar (JHG), Silver – Mokesh (HDBA), 40–43 kg: Gold – Wasim Parvel (HDBA), Silver – Avinash Dey (Hooghly), 43–46 kg: Gold – Srikanta Narayan (HDBA), Silver – Debjit Naskar (Hooghly), 46–49 kg: Gold – S. Tamang (DDBA), Silver – Aditya Sinha, 49–52 kg: Gold – Anesh Roach (HDBA), Silver – Nathan Gurung (DPRB), 52–55 kg: Gold – Manish Paswan (Hooghly), Silver – P. Das (HDBA). In Girls' Division - 46–49 kg: Gold – Aditi Saha (Hooghly), Silver – Ashrin Banu, 64–67 kg: Gold – Manveen Tirtiya (HDBA), Silver – Somya Kumari (ADBA). Special Awards go to Best Boxer (Boys): Sameer Kumar and Best Boxer (Girls): Aditi Saha (Hooghly). Team Championships are Boys' Team Champion HDBA, Boys' Team Runners-up NDBA, Girls' Team Champion: Hooghly. Trophies, medals, and certificates were formally given to the winners and exceptional athletes at the end of the competition to recognise their accomplishments. The organisers announced that all of the chosen boxers will receive intensive preparatory camps and specialised high-performance training, with an emphasis on physical conditioning and tactical refinement to help them win medals for Bengal on the national stage in Jalandhar. This will ensure that the state squad is fully prepared for the upcoming national arena.
