News Desk, News Nation 360 : While describing the case, Dr. Dilip Kumar, Senior Interventional Cardiologist, Device and Structural Heart Expert at Medica Superspecialty Hospital (a unit of Manipal Hospitals Network), shared that being at the vanguard of next-generation cardiac care makes them proud. Even though they have completed almost 200 Conduction System Pacing (CSP) procedures successfully in recent years, this first instance of true physiological pacing represents a significant advancement in their field. It lays the groundwork for the wider use of physiological pacing throughout India in addition to providing a safer and more natural solution for young children with complex rhythm abnormalities. This marks the beginning of a new era of more intelligent, coordinated cardiac care that is in line with cardiology's future. Dr. Dilip Kumar, Director, Cath Lab, Senior Interventional Cardiologist, Device and Structural Heart Specialist at Medica Superspecialty Hospital, has set a milestone. He performed Eastern India's first Bachmann's Bundle (BB) Pacing and Left Bundle Branch Area Pacing (LBBAP) successfully. It is a two-pronged approach. It replicates the natural electrical rhythm of the heart. This is referred to as complete physiological pacing. This innovative heart rhythm management was applied to a 33-year-old male patient, whose name has been changed to Ravi. Ravi is a car driver by occupation from Tripura, Agartala. He had sick sinus syndrome. He also presented with intermittent atrioventricular (AV) block. This is a form of heart block. The electrical conduction between the upper and lower chambers of the heart is periodically delayed or blocked. This was compounded by attacks of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. In this state, spells of an abnormal rhythm of the heartbeat return and disappear. The patient's heart rate had sunk perilously to 25 beats per minute. This rendered him dizzy, breathless, and prone to permanent arrhythmias. An irregular heartbeat might have proved fatal for Ravi. Dr. Dilip Kumar and his colleagues saw that a pioneering, long-term solution was what was required. They opted for a revolutionary combination of Bachmann's Bundle (BB) Pacing and Left Bundle Branch Area Pacing (LBBAP). This two-pronged approach imitates the heart's natural electrical rhythm. This whole method is referred to as complete physiological pacing. It aims to keep the heart's normal contraction rhythms. It also avoids complications with conventional pacemakers. These are heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and pacing-induced cardiomyopathy. Pacing-induced cardiomyopathy is a condition in which the muscle of the heart becomes weakened. Its pumping capacity is decreased. This is particularly because of chronic right ventricular (RV) pacing by a pacemaker. The whole process was carried out in the cardiac cath lab. A novel C315S5 catheter was employed. This success puts Eastern India on the world map of cardiac innovation.
