News Desk, News Nation 360 : The first-ever comprehensive clinic for the treatment of interstitial lung disease (ILD) in Eastern India was established by Apollo Multispeciality Hospitals, Kolkata, in a groundbreaking move. On March 14, 2024, at The Oberoi Grand, an announcement ceremony was held to emphasise the importance of this initiative in furthering the fight against ILD. Dr Syamasis Bandyopadhyay, rheumatologist; Dr Asok Sengupta, Dr Subhasish Ghosh, Dr Arindam Mukherjee, and Dr Debopam Chatterjee, pulmonologists; Dr Suresh Ramasubban and Dr Asif Iqbal, experts in critical care; Dr Saibal Moitra, a specialist in allergy and immunology; and Dr Arpan Chakraborty, ECMO physician and cardiac and respiratory critical care specialist graced the occasion. A portion of the lungs that facilitate oxygen transfer from the blood to the tissues is injured in
patients with ILD. Lung scarring also impairs breathing, which can result in a bothersome and persistent cough. Multiple medical complications may arise as this damage worsens. Speaking, therefore, on the importance of a multidisciplinary team in managing ILD patients, Dr Asok Sengupta, Senior Consultant, Department of Pulmonology, stated that Patients with ILD will benefit greatly from the multidisciplinary clinic since it will enable us to lessen their suffering and, in certain situations, give them a new lease on life. A key component of the clinic is the ILD Management Programme, which aims to improve overall quality of life, reduce disease progression, and relieve symptoms. Expert pulmonologists with a focus on managing ILD will attend the twice-monthly sessions. Through lively discussions among subspecialists and deciding to maximise patient support, this makes a thorough diagnosis possible. The opening of the ILD Multidisciplinary Clinic is a major development in the effort to treat these difficult lung diseases. The ILD Clinic is evidence of Apollo Multispeciality Hospitals' commitment to enhancing patient outcomes, and the hospital is still dedicated to offering state-of-the-art healthcare solutions.
