An Interactive Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Program Was Held at Manipal Hospital, EM Bypass

News Desk, News Nation 360: Director of Manipal Oncology Services & Senior Head & Neck Surgical Oncologist Dr Sourav Datta, Senior Consultant Dr Harsh Dhar, and Consultant Dr Kinshuk Chatterjee led an engaging clinical awareness session at Manipal Hospital EM Bypass ahead of World Head & Neck Cancer Day (July 27) to discuss the difficulties of early detection, treatment, and comprehensive rehabilitation for oral cancer. Nearly 30% of all cancer cases among Indian men are head and neck malignancies, which are mainly caused by tobacco use, alcohol consumption, HPV infection, and poor oral hygiene. The panel stressed that late-stage diagnoses significantly limit survival outcomes and urged prompt specialist consultation for symptoms like mouth ulcers lasting longer than two weeks or unexplained neck swelling. The clinical forum highlighted that post-surgical recovery heavily depends on a multidisciplinary ecosystem—integrating speech therapists, nutritionists, physiotherapists, and psychologists—to restore vital functions like speech and swallowing, enabling patients to regain independence and return to fulfilling lives. It featured moving first-hand accounts from survivors like 60-year-old Chandrakala Mehta, who successfully underwent treatment for a suspicious white patch.
