SERVES FOR NATION
News Desk, News Nation 360 : A moment of pride and legacy was celebrated when the historic Income Tax Office edifice at 3 Government Place (West), Kolkata, was lit up in a magnificent ceremony. The event was a crucial step towards conserving the legacy and improving the architectural beauty of one of India's oldest income tax structures. A historic building in Kolkata, originally constructed as the Imperial Secretariat in 1890–91, and which formerly housed senior functionaries of the Income Tax Department, including the Commissioner of Income Tax, Bengal, has been enhanced with new illumination. This lighting highlights its majestic colonial architecture,
transforming it into a visual spectacle without any structural alterations. The initiative underscores the Income Tax Department’s commitment to preserving its rich history while embracing modernity. As part of this heritage preservation effort, a Heritage Archive was also inaugurated on the building's rooftop on September 23rd, 2024, by the Hon’ble Chairman of CBDT. Speaking during the event, the Pr. Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, West Bengal & Sikkim, Niraj Kumar, IRS, stated that the illumination and archive aim to inspire present and future generations by connecting them with the Department's illustrious history. He expressed hope that this shift will instil a stronger feeling of pride, belonging, and devotion in all stakeholders.
