News Desk, News Nation 360: To commemorate World Cancer Day 2025, the Medica Superspecialty Hospital, as part of Manipal Hospitals Group, organized an event that enabled cancer survivors to share their own inspiring stories of survival through some theatrical performances. The reputed theatre artist and director Chandan Sen, medical experts such as Prof. (Dr.) Subir Ganguly, Dr Sourav Datta, Dr Abhay Kumar, and Dr Arunava Roy, survivors, their families, and doctors were all in attendance to share their respective experiences of fear, hope, and strength in the face of the disaster. Cancer survivors interested in acting will attend a workshop led by Chandan Sen, which will culminate in stage performances that transform their battles into inspiring narratives.  This initiative falls in line with the theme of World Cancer Day 2025, 'United by Unique,' which calls for a people-centred approach to cancer care, considering the importance of addressing both the physical and emotional challenges of the disease. Medica wants to make a supportive community for the patients, from which they can gather strength and give each other a boost. This is even more pertinent with cancer rates going up; ICMR predicts that there will be 15.7 lakh cases in India by 2025, and the World Health Organization is estimating that 35 million people will have cancer by 2050. Prof. (Dr.) Subir Ganguly, Senior Consultant and Advisor, Radiation Oncology, stated that the goal of this initiative is to increase general public knowledge about cancer. The oncology team at Medica is acting proactively because they recognise how urgent it is to close this healthcare gap. They acknowledge that a lack of knowledge and enduring societal taboos contribute to a higher cancer density or the possibility of early identification. They are adamant that cancer knows no bounds, and they are working to make sure that high-quality medical care is available everywhere. Several cancer survivors shared their inspiring journeys of resilience and recovery at Medica Superspecialty Hospital's World Cancer Day event. Baishali Mukherjee, an ovarian cancer survivor, told of her journey from recovery to marriage to motherhood and just as felicitously on the first day at work in Medica. Dipankar Saha, a kidney cancer patient, shared his experience of undergoing radical nephrectomy, highlighting that while cancer may have taken an organ, it did not diminish his spirit. Shibnath Dutta, a prostate cancer patient, discussed the challenges of his cancer journey and his current hormone therapy, expressing his gratitude for the ability to cherish life with his family. Rakhi Bhattacharjee, a singer and homemaker, shared her successful battle against an adrenal tumour, crediting Medica's care for her return to music. Kartik Chandra Ghosh, a bladder cancer survivor, described his experience with the disease and his recovery through treatment at Medica, enabling him to continue his work with the West Bengal Police and pursue his passion for music.
