SERVES FOR NATION
News Desk. News Nation 360: Ruby General Hospital and Ruby Cancer Centre in Kolkata has marked a major advancement in regenerative medicine and hemato-oncology with the inauguration of a world-class Stem Cell and Cellular Therapy Transplantation Unit (Bone Marrow Transplant Unit). Dedicated by Director Dr. Sourav Dutta, Mrs. Ruby Dutta, and Founder Chairman Dr. Kamal K. Dutta, the state-of-the-art facility is built to international standards to treat complex blood disorders like leukemia, lymphoma, aplastic anemia, and sickle cell disease in both adults and children. To minimize strict infection risks for immunocompromised patients, the unit features six specialized isolation rooms with individual HEPA-filtered HVAC systems, touch-free hermetically sealed automatic doors, touch-sensor plumbing, and fully RO/UV-treated water lines, alongside in-house dialysis and a modern Stem Cell Apheresis Room for advanced cellular therapies like CAR-T cell therapy. Managing Director Dr. Kamal Kumar Dutta emphasized that the self-sufficient unit—which supports both Autologous and Allogeneic transplants—seeks to provide a critical second chance at life for patients in Eastern India. The event also highlighted profound patient success stories, including a press brief by senior hematologist Prof. Dr. Tuphan Kanti Dolai alongside Ruby's first successful BMT patient from 2024. Demonstrating its commitment to social responsibility, the Ruby Cancer Care & Research Foundation felicitated Ms. Srijani Sahu, an exceptional Thalassemia patient and Higher Secondary merit scholar, promising to financially support her undergraduate psychology education for the next three years. Additionally, surgical oncologist Dr. Oindrila Biswas presented the complex case of Sauptik Bhattacharjee, a 17-year-old IIT aspirant from Tripura diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma; through meticulously planned limb-salvage and reconstruction surgery using a customized mega-prosthesis, the team successfully averted a traditional limb amputation, enabling the young patient to stand present at the launch and share his transformative experience.
