News Desk, News Nation 360 : Through its portfolio firm NapTapGo, Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd., a Mini-Ratna I Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, announces the opening of the largest pod-style cheap hotel in India in Amritsar. NapTapGo Amritsar, which is only an 8-minute walk from the Golden Temple, represents a turning point in Indian hospitality by introducing affordable lodging that prioritises cleanliness and technology to one of the country's most popular religious destinations. Balmer Lawrie's latest milestone reflects its continued efforts in developing Indian innovation through its Startup Fund, after an INR 1 crore equity investment in NapTapGo in January 2025. NapTapGo Amritsar has been the largest pod hotel in India with 56 PODs and the country's first to provide pod-type rooms specifically designed for group and family bookings. It is also the globe's first pod hotel to offer rooms with built-in washrooms. Constructed with meticulous attention to cleanliness and technology, the hotel features fully automated check-in, AI-driven housekeeping, and IoT-driven hygiene monitoring systems. Designed in such a way as to be able to handle the heavy day-to-day tourist traffic in Amritsar—more than one lakh during weekdays and over two lakhs during weekends—the hotel enhances the city's tourism infrastructure. This launch is aligned with several government programmes, such as tourism and pilgrimage development in holy cities, and also contributes to the visions of Startup India and Make in India by increasing clean, affordable accommodation around the Golden Temple. As a technology-led, indigenous hospitality startup, NapTapGo represents innovation, creates local jobs, and drives entrepreneurship in India's tourism and hospitality industry.
