SERVES FOR NATION

News Desk, News Nation 360: On International Women’s Day 2026, Soma Chakraborty, Co-Founder of Goodace Hospital, inaugurated "Tomar Thikana," a fully free shelter home for destitute old-aged individuals under Gouri’s Foundation. "Tomar Thikana" was inaugurated with other prestigious guests like Dr. Manabi Bandyopadhyay, Vice Chairperson of the West Bengal Transgender Persons Development Board, Debraj Chakraborty - MMIC of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, and renowned Psychiatrist Dr. Dipankar Mukherjee. "Tomar Thikana" is situated at Bidhannagar/Kolkata and is a 12-bed facility that runs on a very unique model: it doesn’t take any paid admission or applications from anyone. Rather, it is an initiative to

provide shelter to old-aged individuals who are totally without any support or families. At "Tomar Thikana," free medical facilities from Goodace Hospital will be provided to all residents. Soma Chakraborty conceptualised this initiative after serving for over 15 years of healthcare leadership at various prestigious hospitals like Fortis and Mercy Hospital. Her vision is to "Give to Gain" by providing a sense of belonging to all those who have been forgotten by society. It is a way to convert the symbolic celebration of women’s day into a practical initiative to provide services to old-aged individuals of the region.
