The Exhibition "I Had a Dream" by Kiran Dixit Thacker Will Be Held in Kolkata

News Desk, News Nation 360: The Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata, is to host 'I Had a Dream...', a landmark solo exhibition of over 180 sculptures, paintings and drawings, by 79-year-old Kiran Dixit Thacker between October 4 and 10, 2026 (open to the public every day from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM). Considered India's only living and practicing female disciple of legendary modernist sculptor Ramkinkar Baij, Thacker studied painting at Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan, and went on to receive a Diploma in Fine Arts in 1969 from the same institution under Baij's tutelage before spending three decades in England teaching craft and design before returning to Santiniketan in 2000 to devote herself full-time to sculpting in metal, clay and stone; inaugurated in the presence of eminent art critic and author, Sri Mrinal Ghosh, gallerist, Vikram Bachhawat and Kala Bhavana faculty members Prof. Pankaj Panwar and Associate Prof. Sutanu Chatterjee, the exhibition showcases Thacker's analytical synthesis of Eastern and Western sensibilities; a devotion to elemental figurative simplicity and the living spirit of Santiniketan.
