The "Green Catalyst" Project is Launched by the Child in Need Institute (CINI)

News Desk, News Nation 360: The Child in Need Institute (CINI), in partnership with the West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) and supported by the Wipro Foundation, formally launched its flagship environmental initiative on World Nature Conservation Day 2026 with the goal of conserving the East Kolkata Wetlands (EKW), one of the largest natural resource recovery ecosystems in the world. The launch event focused on community-level climate stewardship in the Dhapa landscape and was attended by important dignitaries such as WBPCB Senior Personnel Manager Shri Samanjit Sen Gupta (WBCS), West Bengal Biodiversity Board Senior Research Officer Dr S. N. Ghosh and Research Officer Dr Anirban Roy, Wipro Foundation Urban Ecology Consultant Smt. Sreyoshi Bhattacharya, Samagra Sikhsha Mission Additional District Project Officer Shri Bishnupada Sarkar, regional school educators, and youth leaders. The initiative, which is centred around Eco-clubs under the Government of India's Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) and the Environment Education Programme (EEP), seeks to empower young people and impoverished children as "green catalysts" to preserve urban ecological resilience and prevent environmental degradation of Kolkata's vital wetland biodiversity.
