News Desk, News Nation 360 : A 63-year-old male had a life-threatening situation. He had a precariously swollen artery and a clogged heart vessel. He received a second chance at life after a delicate 15-hour heart surgery. What was unique in this case was the severity of the damage. Also, several procedures were perfectly blended to bring back his health. The patient also had no significant history of any medical conditions. He was taken to the emergency department with chest pain. Narayana RN Tagore Hospital, Mukundapur doctors found that he had a very bad aneurysm. It ran from his chest to his abdomen. There were tears inside the artery. There were also indications of decreased blood supply to the heart. Normal procedures could not be done because the situation was too complicated. He was taken straight into surgery. A group of experts, headed by Dr. Atanu Saha, Senior Consultant - Cardiac Surgery, carried out a complicated procedure. This included replacing the aortic valve. They reconstructed the ascending aorta and arch. They bypassed an occluded coronary artery. All this was achieved in one sitting. The recovery of the patient was also astonishing. He was weaned off support within 24 hours. He mobilised early. He was released within 10 days of therapy and rehabilitation. The case exhibits the advanced technology used in cardiac surgery. It also demonstrates the need for timely intervention and specialised treatment. It reminds us that such early symptoms as chest pain should never be overlooked. This is particularly relevant to the elderly. Dr Atanu Saha stated that one of the most difficult cases they have dealt with recently was this one. Because major arteries were involved, there was a significant risk of stroke or paralysis, but with careful planning and a knowledgeable team, they made sure the surgery went smoothly and safely.
