News Desk, News Nation 360 : The establishment of the Axis Bank Antara Institute of Health Sciences in Kolkata has been made possible by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Antara Psychiatric Hospital and Axis Bank, one of the biggest private sector banks in India. With a sole concentration on mental health, this innovative educational institution will provide certified programs in social work, psychology, psychiatry, nursing, and counselling. One of the earliest and biggest institutions in Eastern India dedicated solely to mental health is the Axis Bank-Antara Institute of Health Sciences. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences granted Antara the distinction of being the first hospital in West Bengal to receive accreditation for the DNB (Psychiatry) program in May 2025. The institute plans to enrol 200 students a year by 2028 and begin offering academic degrees in phases starting in 2026. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Vijay Mulbagal, Group Executive & Head - Wholesale Bank Coverage & Sustainability, Axis Bank, stated that it is a privilege for Axis Bank to collaborate with Antara in building a top-tier organisation committed to educating the next generation of professionals, ensuring fair access to mental health care services, and advancing the conversation about mental health in India. Their dedication to inclusive growth, where mental wellness becomes a shared goal for a resilient and compassionate India, is demonstrated by this program. The MoU was signed in the presence of Amitabh Chaudhry, MD & CEO, Axis Bank; Vijay Mulbagal, Group Executive & Head, Wholesale Bank Coverage & Sustainability, Axis Bank; Kamal Prakash, President, Antara; and Dr Matthew P. John, Hon. General Secretary, Antara.
