News Desk, News Nation 360 : The largest private sector non-banking financial company (NBFC) in India, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BFL), a division of Bajaj Finserv, organised a cyber fraud awareness event today at Baruipur, South 24 Parganas, called Knockout Digital Fraud to educate online users about various threats and safe financial practices. The program's main goal is to alert the public about common financial frauds perpetrated by con artists, such as phoney social media profiles, WhatsApp groups, and websites that impersonate financial firms, make false claims of affiliation, and pose as their staff. The Reserve Bank of India's 2024 guidelines on fraud risk management for NBFCs, which place a strong focus on early identification, employee accountability, and public participation to make the digital ecosystem safer for all, are in line with the Knockout Digital Fraud campaign. Speaking today at Bajaj Finance Limited’s Fraud Awareness Programme in Baruipur, Inspector-in-Charge of Baruipur Cyber Police Station, Progati Ranjan Biswas, cautioned that fraudsters frequently take advantage of people's lack of awareness, particularly among wealthy, well-established, and even literate people, by seducing them with promises of fortune or threats like the illegitimate "Digital Arrest." By pretending that drugs were discovered in the victim's package or that their ATM has been compromised, they may pose as law enforcement or other uniformed authorities and trick the target into disclosing private financial information or clicking on dangerous links. He implores everyone to be on guard, resist the temptation to succumb to greed, report any suspicious behaviour to the local police station, and never give out OTPs or personal information online to strangers or unauthorised people. Remain vigilant and secure. Progati Ranjan Biswas, Inspector-in-Charge; Alok Kumar Bisoi, Sub-Inspector; and Vivek Bhagat, SSP of the Baruipur Cyber Police Station, were among the dignitaries and experts in attendance. Sujit Kumar Sarkar, a retired Inspector General of Police, also attended the event.
