News Desk, News Nation 360: The Bengal Obstetric & Gynaecological Society (BOGS) and the Indian Society of Perinatology and Reproductive Biology (ISOPARB) organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) event at Medical College, Kolkata, in honour of World Breastfeeding Week 2026. In order to promote evidence-based practices for maternal and newborn health, the event brought together obstetricians, neonatologists, and other medical professionals. It focused on early breastfeeding initiation within the first hour of birth, protecting mothers' privacy, and raising awareness in remote areas. The initiative, which was launched by West Bengal Health & Family Welfare Minister Dr Sharadwat Mukherjee, Medical College Kolkata Principal Prof. (Dr.) Indranil Biswas, BOGS President Dr Shyamol Sett, and Honorary Secretary Dr Sebanti Goswami, reaffirmed the state government's commitment to increasing early initiation rates, maintaining colostrum benefits, and bolstering lactation support at the community level throughout West Bengal.
