SERVES FOR NATION

News Desk, News Nation 360 : Recently, the Child in Need Institute (CINI), one of the top NGOs in India, commemorated its 52nd Foundation Day. At the campus of Cyril Academy—a unique school ensconced in nature and administered by CINI on the southern outskirts of Kolkata—four adolescent boys and girls from four states of India were there as key guests for CINI’s Foundation Day. Some of the eminent dignitaries present at the event included Dilip Mandal, Minister of State for the Transport Department of the West Bengal Government; Tulika Das, Chairperson of the West Bengal State Child Protection Commission; and Advisor Ananya Chakraborty Chatterjee, along with other distinguished personalities. For over fifty years, the Child in Need Institute (CINI) has impacted the lives of almost a crore of people in eight states by addressing issues related to maternal and child health, nutrition, education, and protecting the environment. To commemorate the occasion, CEO Dr Indrani Bhattacharya launched a new project in preventive healthcare, named Shubhayu, which seeks to combat the growing incidence of non-communicable diseases in the community. The project was launched with basic health checks for blood sugar and blood pressure for all participants, which demonstrates how the project can be implemented. On this occasion, some individuals and institutions were recognised for their significant contributions to society: BDO Irfan Mollah Hosain for his contributions to the healthcare sector in flood-hit North Bengal, environment activist Satyabrata Shamal from Odisha, Dumdum Municipality for its work in managing floral waste, Arogya World for preventing childhood diabetes, and Maipith Gram Panchayat Pradhan Jyotsna Halder for preventing child drowning. Fifteen Kavach-Mothers were also recognised for their joint efforts in child safety projects. Founder Secretary Dr Samir Chaudhuri presented the annual report for 2024-25 and outlined the plan for further progress. This milestone celebration of CINI’s fifty years of service emphasises the organisation’s long-standing commitment to sustainable human development and its gradual shift in focus to address contemporary health issues, such as preventive healthcare.
