News Desk, News Nation 360 : Football has always been a lifelong love for Bengalis. To develop and provide greater meaning to this sentiment, Gopal Gurukul International School, Rajarhat, under the Nitai Chandra Memorial Trust, has organised an Under-15 Junior Division Football Tournament beginning on November 16, 2025. The tournament's much-anticipated final match took place on Sunday, December 7, amid a big and flamboyant celebration. This was the tournament's inaugural edition, with 12 teams taking part. Following the league stage and elimination phase that led to the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and today's final took place over the last two days. Following a hard-fought struggle, East Bengal were crowned the tournament's inaugural champions. The
presence of the Bengal Sub-Junior Team 2025-26 players and coaches as special guests elevated the final match, with their recent National Championship title—Bengal's first at this level in 10 years—giving the event a great emotional resonance. Sheikh Nazrul Islam of Khaja Baba Jewellers provided special support for the event, demonstrating the community's enthusiasm for young football. The game was conducted and honoured by national-level footballers Husein Mustafi and Debashish Mukherjee, as well as Olive Ghosh of Gopal Gurukul International School, with Bengal Sub-Junior head coach Gautam Ghosh, team manager Utpal Mondal, and several other notable sports personalities also in attendance, making the event a significant celebration of Bengal's emerging football talent and recent success.
