Government College of Art and Craft Students' Annual Exhibition 2024-2025 Parampara Successfully Took Place

News Desk, News Nation 360 : The Government College of Art and Craft achieved a major milestone as it celebrated 160 years of artistic excellence, education, and innovation. The opening ceremony was attended by esteemed guests such as Rakhi Sarkar, Munmun Sen, Niranjan Pradhan and DPI Dr Nimai Chandra Saha. The college, which started its journey in 1864 under the Directorate of Public Instructions, has been a cradle of many generations of artists. Speakers emphasized the college's commitment to encouraging creativity and challenging artistic boundaries over the last 160 years. The history of the institution was portrayed as a masterpiece made up of passion, perseverance, and dedication. Visionary leaders, dedicated teachers, passionate students and supportive patrons' contributions were recognized. There was an important announcement about the structural and infrastructural face-lifting of the college's close to 150-year-old main building, a genuine attempt to save this heritage building. There have also

been some major academic transformations, such as the transition to the semester system under the Choice Based Credit System in 2018-19 and the implementation of the Curriculum & Credit Framework under the New Education Policy in 2023-24. The MFA programme was also introduced under CBCS in the year 2023-24 with a Mural Art specialization. The number of students coming in for BFA and MFA has risen during the last two years. Following a long gap since 2009 when it was last accredited, the college successfully got through the new UGC reaccreditation process in March 2024. This success is likely to guide the institute into a brighter future. The celebration not only acknowledged the college's rich heritage but also anticipated its future as a center for imaginative minds where tradition and innovation blend and art keeps shaping the world. The occasion ended with a call to honor this milestone using the same spirit of creativity that has characterized the institution for so many generations.
