SERVES FOR NATION
News Desk, News Nation 360 : Ahead of World Environment Day on June 5, HDFC Bank strengthened its commitment to environmental responsibility by launching an awareness campaign encouraging people to be more cautious of their plastic consumption. As part of the campaign, the bank promotes awareness among customers, employees, and the broader public. Kaizad Bharucha, Deputy Managing Director, HDFC Bank, stated that they at HDFC Bank believe that significant change is best achieved via community collaboration. Their Parivartan activities, such as the plastic awareness campaign, are intended to promote local ownership and produce a long-term effect through the participation of local citizens. Working together to fight plastic pollution helps to safeguard the environment while also building the social and economic fabric of the communities they serve. HDFC Bank's Parivartan CSR initiative is starting a campaign. It will prompt customers in some bank branches to bring in plastic e-waste to recycle. They will also be invited to opt for plastic substitutes. The bank will organise awareness sessions, collection drives, and clean-up drives conducted by staff. This helps in minimising the use of plastic. A special webpage has also been initiated. It emphasises the ill effects of plastic pollution. People can make an online commitment there to cut down their daily use of plastic. The bank is also scaling up its community-driven waste management initiatives across the country. Under Parivartan, HDFC Bank will introduce solid waste management systems in more than 1,000 villages. It also intends to set up material recovery centres in 15 cities by 2025. Countrywide, the bank has introduced recycling, segregation of waste, and landfill minimisation. These activities complement national initiatives such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These are currently operating in Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Assam, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh. They reach residents through education, art, and behaviour change campaigns.
