News Desk, News Nation 360: Dr Tamajit Chakraborty, Consultant Neurosurgeon, Fortis Hospital Anandapur, Kolkata, has highlighted that young stroke patients are a huge problem. The World Stroke Organisation states that 15% of all strokes globally affect people aged 15-49 years old and thus can affect their most productive years, their ability to be a parent and their overall finances. In addition to the physical symptoms associated with recovery after a stroke, Dr Chakraborty highlights that young stroke patients face a number of issues. This includes hidden cognitive issues, ongoing problems with fatigue, loss of job, changes to their role as a carer within their marriage and increased financial burdens. He encourages young adults to not ignore any symptoms such as facial drooping, sudden weakness of limbs or trouble speaking. He encourages compassion within the workplace. Overall, he encourages young stroke patients to have full neurological rehab and to manage their lifestyle factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and smoking. This will help ensure they fully recover and live a fulfilling life.
