News Desk, News Nation 360: The neurosurgeons at Manipal Hospital, Dhakuria in Kolkata have recently performed a critical and complex procedure to treat a 42-year-old farmer from Bihar who came in with a life-threatening aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) due to rupture of an aneurysm of the anterior communicating artery (ACOM). Following acute presentation of thunderclap headache, multiple episodes of vomiting and drowsiness, sophisticated diagnostic imaging by way of Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) unveiled a high-risk, complex wide-neck aneurysm measuring approximately 8.9 × 3 mm with an intervening hypoplastic left A1 segment; to prevent catastrophic re-bleeding (with 50-70% mortality risk within 48-96 hour post-initial bleed), the neurosurgical team led by Dr. Nirup Dutta (Consultant – Neurosurgery) performed an emergent left pterional craniotomy and meticulous microsurgical clipping of the aneurysmal sac to isolate it from circulation, followed by specialized ICU monitoring and anti-vasospasm measures that enabled the patient to eventually regain functional independence and ambulate independently.
