News Desk, News Nation 360: While Durga Puja means long walking hours, pandal-hopping, and queuing up for snacks, it can be especially dangerous for those with diabetes. To help them have fun without having to worry about their feet, Anirudh Choudhary, Founder of Pediteq, shares diabetic foot care tips, such as investing in the right kind of shoes, taking breaks, and checking feet for injuries. Here are ten precautions to help you enjoy the holiday: Ensure you pick comfortable shoes over style, and give your feet the support they need by opting for footwear that is not tight, offers good cushioning, and has a toe box in which the toes can spread freely. When breaking in new shoes, avoid walking for prolonged hours, and instead, take it slow. Plan your pandal-hopping route ahead of time in order to avoid walking long distances at a stretch and have transport and breaks ready. It is a good idea to inspect your feet for redness, blisters, sores, and any other irritation before and after walks. If the feet are swollen, avoid walking and try to sit and elevate your feet instead. Always check the inside of your shoes for irritants like foreign particles and uneven stitching. While standing in queues, try sitting down with your legs outstretched and move your ankles up and down to stimulate blood circulation. Remember to take your regular dose of medication, stay hydrated, and keep track of your sugar levels even on festivals and avoid disrupting your daily routine as much as possible. Always stay alert for unusual sensations, such as burning, prickling, or a tingling sensation, which could indicate some nerve damage. Lastly, if you come across any injury, do not try to treat it yourself, but instead, consult a medical professional.
