News Desk, News Nation 360 : In honour of the historic introduction of income tax in India, the West Bengal & Sikkim Income Tax Department celebrated the 166th Income Tax Day with great fervour and dignity in Kolkata. The occasion demonstrated the Department's dedication to honouring the contributions of taxpayers and the Direct Tax Administration's tenacious work towards nation-building. The event was graced by Hon’ble Chief Guest Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee, Vice-Chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University and former Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, and Guest of Honour Sourav Ganguly, former Captain of the Indian Cricket Team and Ex-President of BCCI. During the function, chaired by Surabhi Varma Garg, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax for West Bengal & Sikkim, and Ashok Kumar Saroha, Director General of Income
Tax (Investigation) for West Bengal, Sikkim & NER, senior officials and officers of the department came together to appreciate the invaluable role played by taxpayers to make a robust and independent nation. In their addresses, the dignitaries appreciated the Income Tax Department's record of raising revenue and reiterated the continued importance of voluntary compliance with tax to ensure India's economic growth. The function also included a felicitation ceremony to honour officers and officials for their commendable service and devotion to duty. As a part of the Young Tax Leaders Campaign, Essay Writing and Poster Making Competitions were organised for Classes XI and XII students from selected Central Schools, with the first three winners in each category being awarded at the function. The ceremony ended with all of them reaffirming their commitment to raising tax consciousness in society and persuading citizens to pay their taxes, emphasising their status as proud contributors towards the country's growth.
