SERVES FOR NATION

News Desk, News Nation 360 : According to a first-of-its-kind JetSynthesys X YouGov Indian Esports Report, the esports ecosystem in India has reached a critical inflexion point, with esports athletes becoming more ambitious, esports being viewed as a serious sport, and esports being considered as a long-term career option. The city has a particularly high level of confidence in esports as a long-term job. Esports is a financially viable career for 77% of everyday esports players in Kolkata, with 44% characterising it as highly viable. With 73% of esports players in Kolkata stating that they had thought about pursuing esports professionally, this confidence is being translated into intent and shows that long-term jobs in the ecosystem are becoming more and more serious. Kolkata’s esports industry is developing into a legitimate career path with multiple career horizons; for instance, close to two-thirds (67%) of them are eager to participate as gamers, but others have chosen a different route through streaming, coaching, and esports event organisation. What is revealing is the apparent desire by a whopping 90% for government regulation of the industry and the provision of improved infrastructure, such as gaming cafes. Mentor guidance also forms a significant part of their aspirations; a phenomenal 91% require career guidance. However, there is a tinge of despair as 81% face issues of social stigma and lack of family support. Indeed, a measure as unifying as university integration is seen as vital, with 89% endorsing esports as a recognised university sports program, while over 90% place great premium on brand sponsorships and scholarships. In a surprising but telling shift, 49% of regular gamers now define esports as a sports concept or game of chess, highlighting a need for discipline and clear, resolute thought. The identity crisis is all but forgotten, with 68% comfortable with referring to professional gamers as “athletes,” while 54% actively do so. What unifies them at heart is perhaps a quintessence of virtues that encompasses clear, calculated thought, mental strength, and accurate hand-eye coordination.
