Manipal Hospitals Kolkata's World Hepatitis Day Summit Stresses the Importance of Early Detection

The event highlighted the critical need for early diagnosis, routine screening, and preventive care in reducing the burden of chronic liver disease. Commencing with a ceremonial lamp-lighting ceremony by leading gastroenterology specialists—including Dr. Sujit Chaudhuri, Dr. Pradeepta Kumar Sethy, Dr. Sanjoy Basu, Dr. Debottam Bandyopadhyay, Dr. Sudipta Ghosh, Dr. Prasanta Debnath, Dr. Rahul Samanta, Dr. Gourab Bhaduri, Dr. Arun Karmakar, and Dr. Vikash Prakash—the summit addressed India's rising prevalence of viral hepatitis, where nearly 40 million people live with chronic hepatitis B and 6–12 million with hepatitis C, often asymptomatic until severe cirrhosis or liver cancer develops. Highlighted by an interactive clinical panel, patient recovery sharing sessions, and expert discussions on lifestyle modifications and advanced minimally invasive liver interventions, the experts emphasised that hepatitis is largely preventable, treatable, and curable when identified early through timely medical consultation and proactive health screenings.
