News Desk, News Nation 360 : Dr Anjan Chatterjee is a 71-year-old renowned and respected gynaecologist and infertility specialist who was brought to Manipal Hospitals, Broadway in an extremely critical condition due to his illness suffering from severe malaria-induced ARDS on 21 October 2024. His disease process further worsened despite the support of non-invasive ventilation; hence, endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation were mandatory. The multi-disciplinary panel consisted of Dr Susruta Bandyopadhyay and Dr Rajarshi Roy, with specialists such as Dr Subhasis Ganguly, Dr Subhasis Roy Chowdhury, Dr Ranjan Sarkar, Dr Debraj Jash, Dr Ashok Verma, Dr Sujit Chaudhuri, Dr Kaushik Das, Dr Debayan Tarafdar, and Dr Subhra Ganguly. In desperation, Veno-Venous ECMO was instituted on 23rd October to provide support for his failing respiratory function. By 1st November after being placed on tracheostomy, he could be weaned off ECMO with no immediate complications. This was a testament to the efficacy of multidisciplinary care and advanced treatment options, as well as the patient's resilience. Dr Chatterjee can be discharged on 14th November and is doing all right.
