Narayana Hospital Howrah Performed a Revolutionary Heart Procedure

News Desk, News Nation 360 : At Narayana Hospital in Howrah, a 7-year-old child from Orissa who weighed only 23 kg received a treatment that changed his life in a medical first. The young patient underwent a state-of-the-art transcatheter closure for his aberrant pulmonary vein drainage and Sinus Venosus Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) after he had been experiencing breathing difficulties and palpitations. The skilled leader of this complex procedure, which involved precisely positioning a covered stent measuring 12 by 49 mm, was Dr Jayita Nandy Das, a consultant paediatric cardiologist from Narayana Hospital in Howrah. The operation offers hope and better health to the youngest patients in need while simultaneously showcasing the cutting-edge skills of Narayana Hospital, Howrah, and opening up new avenues in paediatric cardiology. The young patient originally complained of palpitations now and then and difficulty breathing when exerted. The researchers

assessed several intricate tests, such as balloon occlusion and CT angiograms, to ascertain whether a transcatheter approach to defect closure was feasible. All went well and the procedure was uneventful, with the stent implanted successfully and closing the defect completely. Dr Jayita Nandy Das, who led the procedure, commented that this case represents a significant milestone in pediatric cardiology in this region. Performing such a complex procedure on such a small child with a minimally invasive technique marks a new frontier in care. She is proud of the entire team for their dedication, and they are thrilled with the child’s excellent recovery. After just two days in the hospital following the operation, the boy recovered fully and quickly. This case is notable not just because of the child's young age and low body weight, which presented a technical barrier, but also because it was an innovative procedure in eastern India.
