SERVES FOR NATION
News Desk, News Nation 360: A real-time, cross-border digital payment linkage between India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and Nepal's National Payments Interface (NPI) has been formally launched by NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), the international division of the National Payments Corporation of India, in collaboration with Nepal Clearing House Ltd. (NCHL). The interoperable corridor, which enables smooth person-to-person (P2P) remittances, is now operational across a few banking institutions and is planned for wider, gradual rollout in accordance with the G20's global mandates for affordable cross-border financial channels. With just a mobile number, virtual payment address (VPA), or UPI ID, Indian and Nepalese users can
conduct secure cross-border transactions under this new framework, doing away with the traditional need to share sensitive bank account and routing information. According to Ritesh Shukla, MD & CEO of NPCI International, this low-cost corridor promotes localised digital financial inclusion while immediately simplifying the remittance infrastructure for millions of households reliant on prompt financial assistance. Neelesh Man Singh Pradhan, Chief Executive Officer of NCHL, echoed the cooperative milestone, saying that the integration is a fundamental step in a shared digital payments journey and that both organisations plan to add more interoperable commercial services to the platform. In the end, the UPI-NPI network creates a safe, transparent, and highly traceable transaction ecosystem that serves as a scalable model for future cross-border fast-payment partnerships worldwide, while strengthening the historical economic, social, and cultural ties between India and Nepal.
