News Desk, News Nation 360: Fortis Hospital & Kidney Institute (FHKI), located in Kolkata, has made a historic breakthrough in the medical industry by conducting the first robot-aided tele-surgeries in Eastern India. Three urological surgeries were conducted using the ‘Made in India’ SSI Mantra 3 robotic system over a high-speed 5G network from a distance of 1,500 km. The surgeries were performed by a team of surgeons from New Delhi and Kolkata, led by Dr R. K. Gopala Krishna and Dr Shrinivas Narayan, on patients in Kolkata and Faridabad. The surgeries included the high-

precision removal of an adrenal tumour, reconstructive surgery for a kidney blockage, and the critical Tele-Robotic Partial Nephrectomy of a 70-year-old man with a 9-cm cancerous tumour. The tumour was successfully removed, and the kidney was reconstructed by the team of surgeons within a stringent time frame of 22 minutes. The breakthrough has proved that distance is no longer a constraint for receiving the best of surgical expertise and has reduced the risks and expenses of travelling for patients in critical need of surgery. Richa S. Debgupta, Executive VP of Fortis Healthcare, said that this is a defining moment in the development of the digital health ecosystem in the region and is a significant breakthrough in the tele-surgery journey in the country.
