SERVES FOR NATION

News Desk, News Nation 360 : A middle-aged guy was transported to Manipal Hospital Dhakuria's emergency room at 1 a.m., with his right hand thumb amputated, seven bones fractured, nerves severed, and blood flow disturbed in his hand. Sujoy Sen (name changed) was exploding crackers during the idol immersion when he had the accident. Dr Akhilesh Kumar Agarwal, Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Manipal Hospital Dhakuria, assessed him and immediately decided to schedule him for surgery, which lasted 6 hours and was completed, giving the sufferer hope of regaining his usable hand. Sujoy Sen's right hand was severely injured, with the right thumb amputated at the carpometacarpal (CMC) joint and the palmar arch completely disrupted, resulting in neurovascular damage to the second through fifth digits. Imaging and surgery revealed six fractures in the metacarpal heads of the second to fifth fingers, as well as the proximal phalanges of the fourth and fifth fingers. Following surgery, he was extensively examined for vascular patency and wound healing. He was released five days after surgery and will begin physical therapy in three weeks; until then, his hand will be immobilised in a plaster. Recovery is predicted to be gradual but positive, with continued follow-up care to help recover function over time. Dr Akhilesh Kumar Agarwal, Consultant Plastic Surgeon, Manipal Hospital Dhakuria, stated that the damage was devastating because the impact of the bomb caused his right thumb to be amputated, as well as fractures in all of his bones. The thumb and fingers were torn apart during the occurrence. He was transported to the hospital on schedule, and they decided to proceed with the surgery right away. K-wire fixing was used to stabilise the fractures. The right thumb was successfully re-implanted, and the finger's blood supply was restored using digital vascular reconstruction.
